A COIN AUCTION ON
NOVEMBER 23, 1976
Public Thanksgiving and Praise
Gratefully acknowledging the manifold blessings of the God of Nature and ( of Grace, I do hereby, with the advice of the Executive Council, appoint
I
Thursday, the Twenty-Sixth Day of November Next, <
AS A DAY OF PUBLIC THANKSGIVING AND PEAISE.
And I call upon the people of this State to assemble on that day in their sanctuaries and homes, to recount the mercies and celebrate the praises of our Supreme Benefactor.
Let the memory of sorrow soften our hearts toward all who suffer, and the enjoyment of prosperity lead us to do good unto all as God has given us means and opportunity ; and let us ever yield to Him that humble obedience which is our reasonable duty and highest thanksgiving.
Given at the Council Chamber this twenty-second day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight, and of the Independence of the United States of America the ninety-third.
JOSHUA L. CHAMBERLAIN

FRANKLIN M. DREW, Secretary of State.

AN AUCTION SALE IS NOT AN APPROVAL SALE
TERMS OF SALE
1 . All bids are per lot as numbered in the catalogue and all items are sold as per lot. No lots are sold out of numerical order. The right is reserved to withdraw any lot prior to sale, or to group two or more lots. No lots will be broken up.
2. The highest bidder will prevail. Lots are sold at a slight advance over the next highest bid. The auctioneer will regulate the bidding, and reserves the right to refuse any bid not believed to be in good faith. Should any dispute arise between bidders, the decision of the auctioneer, in the exercise of his judgment as to the successful bidder, will be final, and the auctioneer may re-offer or resell the lot under dispute. Title will be retained by Harmer, Rooke Numismatists, Ltd., until lots are paid for in full.
3. Auction sales are strictly for cash, and must be paid for promptly in U.S. funds. l‘/2% per month service charge will be added to all bids delinquent after 1 month from date of sale.
4. Floor bidders must identify themselves to the auctioneer immediately following the purchase of each lot. Payment of the whole purchase price, or such part as the auctioneer may require, will be made by the buyer in such manner as the auctioneer may determine. Personal checks may be accepted, subject to collec¬ tion.
5. Mail bidders unknown to us must furnish satisfactory references, or remit a deposit of 25% of the total of bids. There is no charge for executing mail bids. In the case of equal bids, the earlier bidder will prevail. Successful mail bidders will be notified of the lots allocated to them, and must forward payment before the lots are sent. Those known to us, or who furnish satisfactory references, may, at our option, have their purchases forwarded for immediate payment. Delivery of lots will be to addresses indicated on bid sheets.
6. (a) Authenticity: All lots are guaranteed to be genuine.
(b) Quality: Any lot, description of which is incorrect, is returnable within fourteen (14) days of receipt and must be received by the auctioneer within 4 weeks from the date of the auction. Any disputed lot must be returned intact in the condition received. The following lots are not returnable: From purchas¬ ers who had the opportunity to examine them before the auction.
7. Forwarding charges, insurance, &/or registry fees will be borne by the purshaser. The N.Y. State Sales Tax as applicable, is payable by all buyers liable to tax.
8. Unlimited or “buy” bids cannot be accepted.
9. The placing of a bid will constitute acceptance of the foregoing terms of sale.
10. We cannot be responsible for any errors on the part of bidders. Please be careful.
11. No consignors, nor their agents, will be permitted to bid on their own material.

(Estimate)
247 1870, 10 pieces (lc, 2c, 3c S, 3c N, % dime, nickel, 10c, 25c, 50c, $1.00)
The Cent is darkly mottled with toning, a few spots. The 2c, 3c N, 3c S, nickel, are nicely toned, while the rest are bright and shiny. The 25c,
50c and dollar all have minimal hairlines but the smaller silver coins are
lovely. Altogether, a very nice set in custom lucite holder. (4,600.00)
248 1 875 Proof Set. 8 pieces from Cent to Trade dollar including the 20c piece.
The Cent is liberally toned, as is the 3c N and the nickel. Some minimal hairlining is noted on all the silver coins, a few field flaws etc. Nice, typical early proof set in custom lucite holder. (4,750.00)
249 1889 Proof Set, seven pieces, all rather nice. The minor coins are nicely
rainbowed and free of carbon spots, the silver all look beautiful, but close examination shows the usual minor flaws we expect to fine in older proof issues, a few hairline scratches, lint mark or two, etc. Still a lovely set in custom holder. (2,750.00)
250 1894 PROOF set, six coins cent to dollar. Cent is lovely dark red, nickel
nicely toned and the silver bright and shiny. All have the above noted minor flaws. In custom case. (3,000.00)
251 1898 PROOF Set, six coins. Lovely appearance, not without its small flaws
but an item which will enhance any collection. In custom holder. (2,650.00)
252 1904 PROOF Set, six coins. Cent is cherry red, nickel rainbow, both slightly
spotted. The silver is all slightly marred by the usual tiny field flaws, hairlines, lint marks, slight discoloration noted on the dollar. In custom case. (2,650.00)
253 Complete PROOF set of Flying Eagle and Indian Cents, 1856-1909 lacking only the 1869 over 1868 (which does not exist in proof) but including both 1908S and 1909S in lovely uncirculated. The 1856 Flying Eagle is lovely, just beginning to rainbow. The remaining three FEs are all a little spotted or slightly stained, which is true of many of the coins in this set.
Equally, many of them are bright and lovely, most toned in varying colors of cherry reds, bronzes, etc. Many of them gleam out of the holder in breath-taking color, while close-examination will show some slight freckling on others, as is usual with old copper proofs. Taken as a unit, it is a gorgeous set, beautiful to behold, and hard to put together at this time. Trend value is over (13,000.00)
254 Buffalo Nickels (N68 to N135) 1913 to 1938 complete except for 1913 P-D-S-Ty 2, -overdate & 3 legged-all are Unc except for 1925-S which is VF. Set has usual amount of flat strike & most are fly specked, but not as bad as it sounds. (3,200.00)

END OF SALE — THANK YOU
DON’T BID IN THE DARK
If buying at auction is new to you If you are unsure of what to bid If your bids are generally unsuccessful If you would like advice in bidding
You can take much of the guessing out of bidding at auction. We’ll be happy to place our sixty-seven years of auction experience at your service, by supplying our estimates of the probable realizations of the lots in which you are interested. Simply send us a list of these lot numbers (leaving space for us to insert our valuations), and enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope. Our reply will be forwarded promptly. If time is short, call us for this information. OF COURSE, HOW MUCH YOU BID, OR WHETHER YOU BID AT ALL, IS UP TO YOU.
Naturally, using our estimates doesn’t mean that you will obtain every lot on which you bid. But you will be in the ball park, and should obtain a fair proportion of your bids, and at prices consistent with current market values.
